The ongoing discourse on food and faith has more to do with personal sensitivity than religion. Unfortunately the debate over food has been given a communal colour which is against India’s secular credentials. Examine.
1857 war was initiated against British rulers was on the beef and pig meat issues. So it is not new to use food as communal issue. Food is a personal choice and need to keep separate from communal issues as
Right of food– Individual is free to choose what to eat in a free nation as long as it is not illegal by law. Also beef has been used as cheap nutrient supplement for poor.
Diff in Believe system-– India is a land of many religions and sects will have diff belief system. One cannot impose its belief on others otherwise it will create chaos in society.
Food vs religion- these both need to be separate from each other as food is necessity for life and all need irrespective of religion.
Debate of food as religious issue is a burden of Indian secular credential because
Communal disharmony– created by it and few political leaders gain from such outcry but larger public get suffer.
Suppress of minority– Mainly poor minority get hurt in such clashes which have the right of safety under constitution.
Harm law and order– for political gains it creates law and order chaos in an area which become cause of larger disturbance and debate at national platform.
International issue– in the era of electric media such issues bring down Indian image of secular and safe nation for minority.
Food is personal choice and cannot be enforced. Indian majority need to understand this fact. Media, political leaders, and intellectuals need to play constructive role to bring people together by trust. Focus on poverty and nutrient supplement is better solution than fighting on such issues in long run.

When Indian started its space programme back in 70s critics raised eyebrow and declard it as waste of money when people were starving for food. Today ISRO achievement is glorious for India. It is similar for Bullet train also as poor status of Indian railway should not use a barricade to stop bullet train project because
- It is a cutting edge technology for India so its success will drive India to have more such services
- Is model can value add for Indian railway also to pull its functioning.
- India which is facing huge transport dilemma, it need something fast, efficient, and reliable medium to bring people attention on transportation as basic need.
- Once failure cannot use as barricade to stop any other innovation in similar sector.
Bullet train project will bring certainly few concrete benefits to Indian railway-
- Aspiration– already Indian railway also now seeking fast trains model like Gatiman express to increase its speed.
- Technology- India can become a new hub for research and innovation to understand such technology to use for Indian and developing countries need.
- Faster transportation– it will boost the transportation sector which is largely neglected specially railway.
- Boost business– as it is proposed Mumbai to Ahmadabad, near to DMIC and GIFT city so great help in connectivity and boosting business.
- International coordination– such projects increase international relation and much such innovation in many new sectors may enter in coming future.
Bullet train is future of Indian railway transportation and we should take it as an opportunity of learning rather liability over next generation. New railway based courses in IITs can link to this ongoing project so student will have lot to learn for future.
What reasons can be attributed to the existing asymmetry in the performance of PSUs in India? Do you think PSUs have not been given their fair share of credit in India’s growth story? Critically examine.
Indian PSUs are working in so many diverse sectors that few are highly successful like Maharatna and many are in verge of closing like HMT. The difference in performance because of many reasons-
Functional area– today PSUs are successful in those sectors which have market demand and few specific players like SAIL, GAIL, ONGC, and so on. PSUs which function for common market products face fierce competition are largely out of market.
Leadership– PSUs who get success largely get right leadership at right time to sustain in market after new economic reform.
Political interfere– in many PUSs was more in degree than other strategic PSUs which hit hard in functioning and they could not perform as per need of market.
Market competition– After market reforms government largely stop the protective approach to PSUs. So many could not survive and government forced to sale of close such units.
Government policy– Government also decides to enable the market rather functioning in market so it closed down many units except strategic areas where state presence was needed.
PSUs has contributed a lot in post independent India as it helped in employment generation, income distribution. indigenous production of many products, save precious foreign currency, develop human resource, and success in critical sectors likes defense, space, and nuclear energy and so on.
But in spite of that PSUs get criticize for its inefficiency, poor implementation, slowdown to Indian growth, and so on.
In spite of that PSUs success cannot be neglected as it worked in an environment when foreign support was negligible and Indian private firms were not enough ready to contribute for national growth. PSUs set a solid basis which was needed to cash the success in NEP era.
